A searchable list of BN "bridge and building" drawings held in the Archive collection. Circa late 1970s, locations from mid-Montana to the Pacific Coast. Most are from predecessor roads NP, GN, SP&S, plus a few Milwaukee Road et al. Drawing scans are not available online but may be available to researchers by contacting the Archives. TO LOCATE DRAWINGS, use View menu at right to select your road, then place cursor over the header at the top of a column you want to filter (try "Station"). Click the down-arrow when it appears, then "Show Filter Choices" if necessary, and click a selection from the scrolling list. You can filter multiple columns at a time. OR... simply type a word into the search box at upper-right.

GN_AFE_List
|
This is an index to the "Authorization For Expenditures" files which were project files for all purchases, construction or removal of facilities or equipment from the GN or NP property. These files may contain correspondence, invoices, blueprints and other project information, and often contain insight into events or changes in a specific area at a point in time. Included also are a limited number of RPC (Record of Property Change) entries, which were made by the railroad for tax accounting purposes. These are denoted by 'X' in the RPC column, and a sample RPC can viewed under GN_Misc. AFE/RPC file contents are not available digitally, so this index provides a guide to researchers contemplating a visit to the physical archives at Jackson Street Roundhouse in St. Paul (JSRH). Each of the nearly 100,000 entries was entered by hand, so you will note some duplicates and misspellings. CLICK on column headings like "Location" to filter or sort for specific items.

GN_Interlockings
|
This information began as a snapshot of the interlockings that existed on the Great Northern System in 1935, including GN's Canadian interests. It now includes some newer installations as well. Please recognise that this is a work in progress and incomplete. By this time there had been towers and other interlockings built, modified and closed. Some of the locations listed have no closing date known to me. Some of these may have been closed by 1935. The Canadian information is very hard to obtain and the group I am involved with this research has provided a lot of the information. Certain individuals have helped out a great deal, notably Hudson Leighton. Any additions/comments/corrections would be very much appreciated.
